Sherlock Holmes - Pipe brooch
I make these pipe shaped brooches from offcuts of wood and MDF board and cover them in pages taken from my worn out copy of Sherlock Holmes. The listing is for one brooch chosen at random.
They measure approximately
7 x 3.5cm (2 3/4 x 1 1/4 inches)
and have a traditional 1 inch steel brooch fastening firmly glued onto the back.
All of my brooches are one of a kind, made from collaging various bits of vintage paper onto off-cuts of wood and board that otherwise would be thrown away. Each brooch is given between 2-3 coats of varnish for protection and a super glossy finish. They have been known to survive trips in the washing machine, although such adventures are not recommended :D
Inspiration
My old second-hand copy of To Kill a Mockingbird couldn't cope with anymore readings and the first 20 or so pages fell out. I thought it was such a shame to throw away a book that had been loved and re-read by so many people so I was inspired to create a range of jewellery that uses the paper from damaged books to celebrate classic novels.
