I believe that the beauty of hummingbirds lies with their elusiveness, strength and delicacy.
As with other pieces in the bY Mi 20/12 Collection this pin is rare, just a limited edition of 20 are made.
For this piece I spent a long time creating an original origami pattern to give a recognisable hummingbird silhouette that also worked as an abstract piece of design. The finished brooch hints at Art Deco style & sophistication with its pleated wing, creating a strong & elegant look.
Each hummingbird brooch is hand folded from kingfisher blue silk shot with an electric-green metallic thread which catches the light beautifully. It is as fleeting & surprising as a real hummingbird. The bird is then sewn onto a silver plated brooch pin and mounted on a protective card. Just as the colours mirror the plumage of a Violetear Hummingbird, the brooch also mimics its small size, just 9x8cm. You will find it the perfect piece of jewellery to adorn your favourite evening dress or jacket.
