This bag has been made from a green fabric with self fabric embroidered flowers and swirls. The lining is a green silk dupion and a Laura Ashley paisley quilted fabric. The bag has been interfaced to give it structure. The gentle pleats at the facing give the bag its lovely shape. There are two self-fabric straps which are long enough to carry the bag over your shoulder. There is a magnetic clasp closure.

The distinctive feature of this bag is the long and narrow flap which has been decorated with green velvet ribbon, black guipure lace and four shamrock leaf shank buttons. This has been lined with the green silk dupion. There is a self fabric loop with a large flower button.

The matching purse has a Laura Ashley paisley quilted lining and a green zip. The purse has been decorated with green velvet ribbon and three shamrock leaf shank buttons. It has a self fabric zip pull.

The bag has been handcrafted to a high standard.

Straps are 63cm long (25ins) x 2.5cm (1 inch) wide
Flap is11.5 (4.5ins) wide x 18cm (7ins) long

The Folksy March monthly challenge was to create an item for St Patrick’s Day and Ireland. This bag was inspired by this challenge.

The name Granuaile is an Irish girl’s name and the original woman from the 16th century was described as “one of the most remarkable women in Irish history”. Her fame was celebrated in verse and song and in James Joyce’s “Finnegan’s Wake.” She is often seen as a poetic symbol for Ireland.
