Inspiration

This mallet was in a box of carpenter’s tools I bought in a sale. It was very grubby but a good wash, sand and lacquer revealed the beauty of this mighty chunk of timber. It is very, very hard and I’m not sure what variety it is but possibly oak. It has marks and chips from its former life but these add to its attractiveness. The handle goes all the way through the block and is very firmly fixed. It is heavy and will make an excellent doorstop or bookend. I have added some felt feet to the base.
This piece of timber is much too beautiful to be hidden away.
