This bowl is named, SOLI INVICTO
Turned from local Ash (Fraxinus excelsior) from Northumberland in the UK. This piece is ebonised and has patinated silver leaf. Finished in shellac and microcrystalline wax.

SOLI INVICTO ('To the unconquered Sun') is a representation of the importance of the Sun in giving life to our world. Without this source of energy, radiating from the centre of our solar system, ours would be a dead, black planet. Not surprisingly, early recognition of the Sun's fundamental importance to life led to religions based on Sun worship, culminating, perhaps, in the Roman deity SOL, later given the title INVICTUS.
