'Watercolour'
Whilst feeding my addiction to kimono fabric I was amazed to discover that Japan was heavily influenced by western modernist design in the 1950's and 60's. I have found fabrics heavily inspired by Eames and Day which give any piece of 'Bark Cloth' a run for its money. As with European vintage print fabric, these are highly collectable. But of course THESE are hand painted, 100% silk and entirely unique.
This simplistic cushion is made from genuine vintage kimono fabric from the 1950's with an abstract design of cherry red, black and grey brush strokes on an antique white background. The reverse of the cushion is vintage kimono black silk lining.
There are two cushions available if you are looking for a pair! See final image as the design is slightly different. However this has some vintage marks on it too - see the bottom white stripe. There is also a black mark on the top of the cushion where the brush has touched the fabric. This all adds to the character of the fabric!
I hope you can display and enjoy this cushion as if a beautiful work of art or sculpture. Much of the cloth I use is hand embroidered or hand-painted and I think this is a wonderful way of preserving such an ancient and revered craft.
