KIT TO BUILD - Noise Hero - Lofi Electronic Noise Maker
Description
This item is a kit to build your very own Noise Hero including all the components, a CDR of instructions, a piece of stripboard, battery holder, knobs, wooden base and aluminium face plates.
You will need the following tools to build the Noise Hero circuit:
A drill, a 4mm drill bit, a 1.5mm drill bit, a fine tipped soldering iron, some solder, side cutters, some wire wool or fine sand paper and wire strippers. A helping hands type device will help you keep the circuit from moving around. Also a wide tipped soldering iron is useful for getting rid of any solder bridges between track of strip board if your soldering is less than perfect.
You will need the following extra tools for mounting the circuit onto its base:
A dot punch or sharp nail/screw, a 9mm drill bit, a13mm drill bit, a metal file, some pliers and a small pozidrive screw driver.
Here's some information about what the noise hero can do:
Noise hero is a little 4093 based electronic noise maker. Its great for making sound effects and silly noises.
It is controlled by 5 knobs, 8 switches and one push button.
It has 3 oscillators (Yellow, Green and Blue knobs). Osc 1 produces audio frequency ranges whilst osc 2 and 3 produce LFO and audio frequencies.
Osc 1 goes to the output through a simple passive filter (Red knob) while osc 3 can be switched to the output but bypasses the filter.
Osc 3 modulates osc 1's pitch by the amount set by the orange knob. This modulation can be shaped by 2 shapers which can be switched on and off. Osc 3 can also gate osc 2.
Osc 2 can gate osc 1 and passes through an inverter after which it can gate osc 3.
There is also a push button to trigger the unit (actually a power button), a switch to lock the power on, a power led indicator and a battery cap switch which lets the unit run for a short time after power off for springy type noises.
The Noise Hero is powered by a single 9v battery (not supplied). It requires external amplification via an amp or soundcard to be heard.
It is also supplied with an instruction CDR.
Its dimensions are: 14cm x 8cm x 4.5cm or 5.5" x 3.25" x 1.75"
