The striking red poppies contrast with the hand-felted, cornfield background of this embroidered brooch.
Naturally dyed merino and mohair fibres are combined in the hand-made felt which forms the background to this brooch. Distant flowers are represented by French knots. The poppies and corn in the foreground are stitched in silk ribbon. This graduation in size gives a depth to the design.
The brooch is stiffened with plastic cut from a recycled bottle. A space-dyed, loosely spun wool, in shades of green and purples, is bound round the edge of the brooch to frame the design.
The back of the brooch is neatened with felt and a brooch pin is securely stitched in place.
