The remains of Hay Castle (the second Hay Castle), which overlook the present town, have had a long and troubled history, being sacked by the Welsh and by the English over the years. From 1100 to 1500 the Marches went through many turbulent episodes as powerful Marcher Lords changed sides in the hope of advancing their own interests. Hay Castle is now the site of Hay Castle Bookshop.
My family and I visited Hay-on-Wye on Boxing Day 2007, hoping to spend lots of money in the legendary hundreds of bookshops (well a few anyway) to be found in the town. Unfortunately, this was not to be: although there were tour busloads of people arriving and wandering around the town that day, we could find only 3 bookshops open...I definitely think they were missing a trick! Anyway, we had a lovely stroll about the place, taking lots of photographs, and this ACEO is a great memory of a wonderful day out.This has been worked with watercolour pencils, lightly brushed over with water, on watercolour card, and is in ACEO format, meaning it is 3.5 inches x 2.5 inches in size. Small but perfectly formed!
This is an original, not a print, and has been signed and dated on the back by me.
When purchased, this ACEO will come in a protective plastic sleeve.
All proceeds from the sale of this item go towards sending my daughter to the 22nd World Scouting Jamboree, to be held in July, in Skåne, Sweden.
