Embroidered, in relief, in a mixture of ribbons and embroidery threads this brooch will be a striking accessory for a jacket, coat, scarf or shawl.
The black background is hand knitted in a mohair yarn and then fulled, felted to give a closer texture. It has then been machine basted to a thick woolen fabric. The oval shape has then been cut and the edge of the brooch neatened by machine stitching. Th fuscia has been stitched in organza ribbons. The 'upper petals' have been twisted to create a three dimensional effect. The leaves have also been embroidered in ribbon.
The design has been framed with two rows of couching over a chenille yarn - giving a velvet effect. The back of the brooch has been neatened with black commercial felt and a brooch pin is securely stitched in place.
The fuscia is in relief, its main features represented by loops of ribbon, and it may best be worn on an outer coat or jacket in order to avoid crushing the design. Care should be taken not to snag the petals on, for example, car seat belts.
