A lovely jewellery designer, Jax from Silverspiral, suggested the idea of a design journal to me and this is what I was inspired to create.

Full description
This handmade journal was made from organic red linen fabric. On the front of the journal I have appliquéd a large letter ‘D’ using pale blue felt. I have then hand stitched a selection of blue and turquoise beads and buttons, plus sequins to cover the ‘D’ and make a sumptuous surface. I have then embroidered the rest of the word in the centre of the ‘D’ to create the word ‘Design’ On the back I have stitched a photo of a blue butterfly.
I hand stitched the seven signatures together using red hemp twine. The spine has been left exposed because I think it is a pretty feature to this handmade journal. Please note there are irregularities with this handmade journal, the cutting and folding of the paper is not perfectly flush.
This journal is very special. I hope it will be inspirational to designers who like to record their ideas and sketches. It would also make an ideal gift. It is beautiful to look at, but is also very useful and practical.

Journal is approx. A5 size, 15.5cm (6.25ins) wide x 23cm (9ins) long. All sizes are approximate.
