Multi Textile Bird
Description
I have made this free-standing textile bird using a myriad of remnant textiles and threads. His fat little body is made from a green wool in a herringbone weave. His wings are a patchwork of tiny pieces of wool, linen and silken fabrics and his splendid tail features these same fabrics on a base of chartreuse linen. All threads and raw edges are treated to prevent fraying beyond my purposeful teasing of the fibres for textural effect.
The little bird's legs are formed from re-purposed copper wire and his beak is a double layer of wool felt. His eyes are dark brown beads on tiny ivory felt circles. He is plump full of polyester toy filling.
Post is first class.
Inspiration
I was playing around with the various scrap and remnant fabrics I am loathe to throw out and noticed the way these fabrics worked together and contrasted against each other in both texture and colour. I thought it would be interesting to create a bird that retained and revealed the raw and woven qualities of these textiles.
