Full description
Fragments of cotton fabric, produced as a by-product of dressmaking and patchwork projects, have been used to decorate this cuff.
Fabric scraps in shades of turquoise and white, have been bonded to a felt background using an embellisher machine. Pieces have been torn to shape to avoid the sharp edges produced by scissors and to begin the fraying process, accentuated by the machine. Small gaps in the design have been filled by 'felting -in' scraps of yarn in blue tones. The 'patchworked' cover has then been embroidered using simple hand stitching. Crochet threads in white and blue have been used for the stitching. The kunin felt used for the background is eco-friendly - produced from the recycling of plastic bottles. Tiny sequin flowers and turquoise hearts, cut from trimming, are scattered across the cuff.
The cuff is lined with a patterned ribbon. (Pinned in place for the photographs, the ribbon will be neatly stitched inside the cuff when the button position has been adjusted). The cuff closes with a button-hole-stitch loop over a turquoise button.
Length of embroidered panel: 22 cm approx.
