I am a furniture designer and maker who was born in Colchester. I graduated with a BA (Hons) Degree in Product Design, and completed the Furniture Making course at the Colchester Institute where I achieved a Distinction and was nominated for a City and Guilds Gold Medal for Excellence. I have worked as a furniture and piano restorer before launching ttdesigns.
I run my woodworking studio in the Essex countryside on the outskirts of Braintree.
My products are designed and handmade by me. All the marquetry is cut by hand using a scalpel. I find the intricate and detailed nature of the work very satisfying. I like to create simple, contemporary designs to a high level of craftsmanship. My style also incorporates the use of marquetry with contrasting veneers to add elegant detail to my pieces, inspired by nature and from my travels around the world.
The timber used to make my jewellery boxes is sourced mainly from offcuts from joinery shops or veneer suppliers. The small handles on my boxes are carved from reclaimed piano dampers. I like to think i'm giving new life to condemned wood. I use solid Walnut or Oak dowels to add strength to the mitred joints of my boxes and to add another decorative feature.
All my pieces are finished to a high standard using a modern hardwearing lacquer.
