Meet the maker Vicki Hutchins

Artist. Owned by I man, 2 kids, 1 dog, based in Somerset.

I paint most days, and I'm hugely inspired by the outdoors and nature.

In all my paintings, I'm motivated by colour and mark making - I use brushes, palette knives, squeegees, bits of card, and splintered ends of paintbrushes (thanks puppy) to get the texture I'm after.

Walking my dog around where I live means I have no end of subject matter for my landscapes paintings. They are fresh and vibrant, with bold use of colour, usually capturing a whole scene.

My florals are inspired by flowers from my garden or those I've been given - I love preserving their beauty in paint long after the blooms have faded.

My abstracts are not painted from life or reference - though sometimes they might look like a landscape. Usually they start with a colour palette, and I let the painting evolve intuitively from there. It's a very different process from my landscapes and florals, and it's great to be able to have the freedom of unlimited expression through abstract painting.

Without question, my favourite colour is blue.
