Meet the maker Carole Barnes Linkman

Hi, My name is Carole and I've always had a passion for art and crafts and studied for a degree in the History of Art and Design when I left school. Then life intervened and it all had to be placed on the backburner...until now.

I've painted all my life...from my earliest memories of drawing and painting dolls in felt-tip pens, through my schooldays using those thick blocks of paint that the school provided, to discovering oil paints when I did my degree.

For most of my adult years, painting as a hobby whenever I could snatch a moment, I worked on oil landscapes. Then I tried painting a portrait of our dog, Lucy, in pastels. My friends were so taken with it that they asked me to do their pets so I began to offer a commissions service. I've also been working on a series of paintings of flowers in mixed media.

I began making jewellery after visiting the Hobbycraft Show at the NEC some years ago when I came across the Spellbound bead stall...it was like being in a sweetshop! I started with bead-stringing, moved on to bead-weaving and then began to experiment with silversmithing. Since then, I have continued to explore other materials, taking in Artclay silver, polymer clay and resin. All my silver pieces are under 7.78g so they are exempt from being hallmarked, although one day I would like to work on bigger pieces.

I hope you enjoy browsing through my shop.
