About Woolly Spinners

Woolly Spinners

Handspun luxury yarns and hand knitted goodies

Hi, I'm Sue and I have been knitting on and off for years, I have been spinning for a couple of years and i'm loving it! I am enjoying producing some high quality yarns.

The start of WoollySpinners:
We are Mother and Daughter (Sandra & Sue).

We have many of the same interests and hobbies and love crafts. Mum suggested we try spinning wool and so we spent some time with the Chertsey Woolcraft Guild to find out how it all works..... We were hooked! within a few short weeks we had our own spinning wheels, one each of course, and started to spin some wool.

The first few days were very frustrating and my first attempt was like knicker elastic! I had lots of breakages in the yarn and the air was rather blue at times. I could hear mum chuckling at my frustration... well mum had the same problems and I couldn't help but chuckle when I could hear myself in her tantrums.

A couple of weeks of failures on my lovely new wheel and I finally got it! I started producing some wonderfully soft Merino wool which I plied. It came out at approximately DK thickness.

I desperately wanted to try and knit something for me from my newly spun yarn. I knitted a jumper ready for winter right in the middle of a heatwave! so I couldn't try it out. I thought it would take me until winter to knit it but a couple of weeks and it was done. It is wonderful and soft and I couldn't wait until winter.... oh but I love the sun and warm weather too.

We now have more yarn than we can use and the yarn has sparked our knitting passion off again so we are producing yarns and knitting with homespun and commercial yarn. With all this excess we decided to open our shop back in July 2016 on another venue. We have built 100% great feedback but things have changed on our other site so we would like to try out Folksy. We checked out a few different sites and this seems to be a friendly place so we hope to fit in well here.

So WoollySpinners is here and we hope to bring you some wonderful products in both hand spun yarns and knitted goodies!
