About Toasted Glass

Toasted Glass

Whimsical, beautiful, hand painted fine china and glass.

Hey you,

Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to have a look around!

My name is Monique and I'm the brains and the paintbrush behind Toasted Glass. I'm also the designer, packer, stock controller and general dogsbody. In fact, I like to think I'm the big boss of everything - except accounts - I leave that to my long suffering life partner and father of our two boys.

I've been painting on glass since the 1990's which makes me feel very old, but also very confident in what I do and I've been running Toasted Glass since 2012. I progressed from the kitchen table to a studio at the front of our house in Chelmsford, Essex, where I spend most of my days and quite a few of my nights, creating, designing and painting fine china and glass. Owing to the delicate nature of my work, studio pets are a no no, but I am kept company by my beloved plant, Castro, the fiddle fig and the dulcet tones of Radio 4.

I find the process of painting, very calming and therapeutic and it gives me real pleasure to know that my work is appreciated. Every time a customer reorders or tells me how much the gift they gave was loved by the recipient, I get a warm, fuzzy glow. I put a lot of love and care into every aspect, from the painting itself to the packaging and design. A lot of my designs are inspired by nature; flowers, animals and birds, but I'm just as likely to take inspiration from fairytales, bicycles, my favourite childhood films, whatever takes my fancy!

When I'm not working, I like to go to yoga or pilates classes and try to counter the effects of spending my days painting and when I'm not being so virtuous, I am partial to the occasional gin martini, from a Toasted Glass glass, of course!

If you have any questions, please get in touch. I'd love to hear from you.

Best wishes

Monique
