The Paperie & Artelier
The Paperie is my handmade card business which I started in 2014 whilst working as an Artist specializing mainly in portraiture. I started to make greeting cards and sell them in my Studio and very soon I had quite a following of regular clients.
After Little Beau and I were left alone in a rambling kind of house at the end of 2014, and I had to learn to 'go it alone' I looked to set up my studio at the house and I converted part of it into a business - a studio in which to work, a Shop to sell my cards and paintings and a tea room where people could enjoy homemade French Patisserie. Whilst hard at first, I soon found my way and in 2016 started to sell on Folksy. Folksy kind of changed my life again in so many ways as it enabled me to reach out to a wider global audience. I now have my own website thelavenderblue.com, providing a further platform to bring my products to market. Each year is better than the year before and I am expanding all the time. The business is now full time again and I am loving every minute.
With my French roots and background in Art together with my love of all things beautiful and romantic - I am inspired by 17th and especially 18th Century French Painting and Textiles, costume and Jewellery. I adore soft Chateau shades brought together with accent colours, satin and organza ribbon, vintage lace and beautiful Cabochons which I use extensively in my work.
Some of my fondest memories as a child were days spent rifling through my Mother's vast collection of old cards and letters which she kept in boxes. I was inspired by the personal messages inside the cards of love and friendship to keep forever, and I guess this is the wonderful thing about cards - they are keepsakes forever.
In an age of modern technology I am still an avid letter writer and I always keep my handmade stationery on my writing desk to drop a line to family and friends - so much nicer to receive something beautiful in the post - it really brightens your day.
