About Pardaz

Pardaz

Take a piece of nature and history with you: my paintings are fine, elaborated frames of nature using a technique with 600 years of history!

My name is Fatemeh and I am a miniaturist and writer.

In fact, my Persian painting miniatures are the other side of the stories I have been writing since the 1980s. I was raised in Shiraz, the land of poetry and wine, where I learned my painting skills from my sister (and master) since the age of 18, and then moved to Scotland, a green gem of the Earth. The chance of living in these two great lands has given me the opportunity to get closer to nature and culture. I am fond of mythology, history, and ecology, which together generate my creativity and inspire me to push beyond geographical borders – where all differences vanish in the peaceful land of art. In this territory, Robert Burns and Omar Khayyam are two friends, arm in arm, drinking wine and enjoying the sight of roses.

In my artworks, I use a Persian painting technique called ‘pardaz’, a technique with 600 years of history, to illustrate a fusion between Iranian and Scottish elements. In Persian, ‘pardaz’ means ‘the act of refining and re-refining to make something perfect’.
All my works are painted using very fine brushes with several layers of Acrylic and water colour. Shading is carried out in a pointillistic fashion, whereby the many dots and layers of colour aspire to reach perfection.

I make functional and decorative Persian paintings of nature on different materials such as paper mache, wood, gem stones, fabric, and so on. All of the works are created in my home studio in St Andrews, Fife.
I am happy to accept custom orders, so please pop in and get in touch on my Instagram and Facebook pages.
