I wish to make high quality, unique and interesting items that can be used and treasured for years to come.

I am retired and have been woodturning for a few years although I have always had an interest in working with wood. Woodworking is possibly in my genes as my father was a skilled joiner and his father before him and I wonder what they would be thinking if they could see me now.

The design of the pieces I make have evolved the longer I have been woodturning and now have changed from the purely functional when I first started to pieces that are more inspired by my environment. I live in the shadows of Pendle Hill and am influenced by a combination of the industrial heritage of the cotton mills and the changing seasons and countryside I live in.

I have a particular interest in making items that are technically difficult such as those with an inlay and in getting a good a finish as possible. This means that I have to take several days in building the finish on each item to be perfect. The reason for this is that each coat of finish takes several hours to dry and then another coat is applied and so on. Finally after the item is completed I wait a few days for the finish to cure and then the item is finally polished. Therefore each item has taken several days to make and will have a good a finish as it is possible for me to achieve.

Every piece made will be unique and that is what inspires me. I research at length ideas that I like and hope other people might like too. I have my own workshop at home and so I can truly say that all the pieces I make are home made.
