Atalanta Art, I simply borrowed the name from the latin name of the Red Admiral butterfly, all wild things inspire me but my first love is Butterflies followed closely by Moths and Wild Flowers.
When I discovered my first Privet Hawk moth as youngster it was like a wand and it cast a spell on me. From there my brother and I decided to write a natural history book and as illustrators were expensive those days I decided to try my own illustrations, well, the book fell by the wayside but I did continue to paint assisted by my black she cat as of late.
I am fortunate in that I have adequate studio space for painting botanical style and as it is nice to view the habitat of my subjects I do the occasional landscape.
I have now added Copper Viking inspired jewellery to my shop using Viking symbols and Viking beliefs, I hesitate to say myth as we are all entitled to our beliefs, also dig deep enough and I think there is an element of truth there, for example the great winter- ice age? Fenrir the wolf snatched the Sun- volcanic ash?
The symbols for decoration are stamped with punches that are not available so I have to make them, it is best to make a basic set and then add to them as needed there are so many of them.
