The finished copper shapes have then been flame painted, which is to gently brush the surface of the metal with the tip of a soldering torch flame, this produces a rainbow of colours as the metal cools. Over time the copper will start to oxidise and the colours may change slightly; part of the beauty of copper jewellery is the rustic nature of the colour developing over time. To prolong the life of your flame patinated jewellery please ensure that you don't wear them in the shower, pool etc, and don't use any kind of polishing compound on them. Please see the last picture for the current batch of these unique earrings! I make these in small batches of 5 pairs at a time so this is the batch yours will be selected from. The long copper earrings are hung from handmade solid copper earwires which have been tumbled for strength. The total length of these earrings is 7.5cm from the top of the ear wires. It's made from solid copper sheet which I've textured with a variety of hammer strokes, soldered together and smoothed at the edges before giving it the wonderful patina with a heat gun. This is quite an unpredictable process and each bangle will vary as to which colours will come out on which part of the bracelet. Over time the copper will start to darken and the colours in the bangle may change slightly; part of the beauty of copper jewellery is the natural effect of the colour developing over time. The multicoloured effect is applied using gentle heat to partially oxidise the copper, it moves through a range of colours: blue, purple, pink orange and bronzey yellow. Over time the colours in this type of jewellery may start to change, this is a natural process and part of the charm of copper.
