About The Crafting Cat

The Crafting Cat

I'm a slightly eccentric Nonna who just loves to make stuff across a range of mediums.

My name is Marie and I'm a grandparent in my mid 50s with three adult children, three grandchildren, six fluffy (& over helpful!) cats and one small dog. My children describe me as a "serial crafter" and my house reflects that with my dining room being entirely given over to craft storage and workspace. Christmas is my least favourite time of year because I have to pack away my sewing machine, tools and works in progress so that the table can actually be used for its intended purpose.

Like most people my age I learned to sew at school - and I hated it! It wasn't until my children were of school age that I was struck by what I now call "The Crafter's Curse" ... that's where you see something for sale, briefly consider buying it & then think "I could make that!" and so it began. I taught myself to sew with the help of a seamstress friend, another friend taught me to crochet and once the ball was rolling the possibilities seemed (and still seem) endless.

These days sewing and crochet are my mainstays but I also dabble with Indian block printing, polymer clay miniatures, plain knitting, papercrafting, Kumihimo, EPP patchwork and this year have started to play around with small piece resin casting so at any given point, depending on how the mood takes me, pieces involving any of these might be listed in my shop. If I can combine elements from several disciplines at once then my cup runneth over!

I work full time so all my crafting is done in the evenings and at weekends although I've always got a small project in my bag ready to whip out in waiting rooms and even in the office if workload allows (I have a very understanding boss!). I'm very active within the cat community on Twitter & am involved in a group who raise money for charity by making and decorating scarves for cats - hence the shop image of Claude, my rescue flame point Ragdoll stoically modelling a cat wedding veil. I promise I don't habitually dress him up!

Anyway I'll stop rambling now... I hope you enjoy looking at my makes as much as I enjoyed making them!
