About Scrumped-up Eco

Scrumped-up Eco

Create from scratch original items and artwork using eco friendly methods.

Since I was very little I have sewn. It's something I do and I have even had pieces in exhibitions. What can I do with this? leads me to just start 'making' and i seldom use a pattern unless its for clothes.
I did do a couple of years at Art College in the 1970's where I got to experience many traditional methods of creation. But, I love to do something new and experiment and as an older person I have attended workshops for machine and handstiched patchwork and machine embroidery because I like to get to a point where my work is 'good'. So sewing has always been something in my life and I am still using pieces I created over 30 years ago and have gifted work to friends and family over the years.
Over lockdown I have found hand patchworking therapeutic in a mindfulness way and it is something I can just pick up and create in a fun way using a randomness as opposed to carefully matched and orchestrated. Its a great way to use up smaller offcuts and the results are pleasing.
Like most people, nature and outside inspire me as much as people and environments with quickly photographing a walk or journey or passing light on a scene. I often intend to do a painting from the images and sometimes do in acrylics or watercolour mostly and again I have attended specific classes for this to build confidence.
Being creative and practical extends to building walls in the garden, mixing old paint for a wall and generally having a go at stuff alongside dying fabric with natural materials as well as stuff from packets.
A lifelong thrifty eco environmental attitude means that I have a range of physical and personal resources and am really pleased that younger people have taken the lead to move steadfastly to protecting the earth and the life on it.
People give me stuff to avoid waste - torn jeans, ribbons and other fabric items, even the scraps from friends and family who sew.
What I make is not limited to sewn items but most are practical or useful.
I don't have cats. Neighbours have cats. I have flowers and bees.
