Hand made using traditional jewelley making techniques from solid sterling silver, the pendant was cast using a natural cowrie shell, found beach combing on Studland Beach, Dorset. I created this necklace using traditional jewellery making techniques. This piece was created by hand casting the focal bar in cuttlefish bone, which I found beach combing on Charmouth Beach, in Dorset. The intricate patterns the cuttlefish bone creates is unique to this design, like a fingerprint. The pattern is on both the front and the reverse of the bar. I love how the process created the unique drops at the base of the bar, adding to the abstract feel of the design. The white cultured pearl adds another focal point, a nod to the seaside origins of the piece. The necklace features a strudy oval linked chain, which has been finished with a handmade clasp. The neclace weighs 9.6 g of solid sterling silver and is 19 inches in length, but sits an the necline like an 18 inch necklace, due to the bar design. The ring band has been created by twisting and hammering sterling silver wire which has then been formed on a ring mandrel and soldered. The flower itself has been pierced from sterling silver sheet and gently domed before finishing. The tiny 18ct yellow gold centre of the flower had been created by melting 18ct gold wire into a sphere and soldering to the center of the simple flower, to create contrast. I have used traditional wire wrapping with sterling silver to attach the lustrous cultured pearls which add further movement when the earrings are worn. The necklace features hand cut Ethiopian opal beads, interspaced with sterling silver beads for contrast. The beads shine blue and green in the light. The pendant has been hand cast using a star anise seed pod. I just love the floral form of this spice. Each pod is unique and gives an almost sun-burst design element to the necklace. The seed pod has been cast usuing the delft clay method, where a mould is made of the original seed pod in the delft clay and moulten sterling silver is poured into it. The finished piece had preserved the gorgous details of the original seed pod. It forms the focal point of my design. This star anise showcases the gorgeous natural Australian opal which I have set to highlight the colours in the Ethiopean opal beads. The oval opal shines blue and green with shimmers of orange, yellow and purple fire. There is a sterling silver lobster claw clasp and the necklace has been traditionally hand knotted for strength and duribility. I have created this ring from 9ct (375) yellow gold 'D' shaped wire and cut the yellow gold disc from 9ct yellow gold sheet. The ring was gently shaped on a ring mandrel and the disc slightly domed to protect the pearl. The pearl was mounted on a 9ct yellow gold peg setting, soldered into the centre of the disc. The ring is a UK size 'O' approximately. The band is 2 mm in diameter and the disc is 12 mm in diameter, set with a 6 mm cultured pearl. This technique has left the unique imprint of the intricate veining and texture of the leaf on the silver. The bar pendant has been accented by a large ball of 18ct yellow gold, which is 4 mm wide. Inspired by the low autumn sun as it is beginning to set, sending its glow through the golden leaves. The pendant has a large round bail through which I have threaded and 18 inch / 44cm ball chain. I used this style of chain to compliment the design of the pendant's golden accent. The pendant measures 44 mm long and 6 mm wide. The 18ct yellow gold accent measures 4 mm in diameter.
