InkyPrints-Originals

My life as a printmaker-artist: I draw and carve, ink and print, make mess, tidy up and repeat - all with lots of coffee!

A bit about me

I am Fiona Humphrey, a fine art printmaker-artist, creating original linocut and collagraph monoprints as well as small limited editions. Following a printmaking course over a decade ago at the Oxford Printmakers, I became a member of the Birmingham Printmakers with whom I exhibited regularly before a move to Leicestershire. I am an elected member of the Leicester Society of Artists and a full member of the Leicester Print Workshop.

My work combines the bold mark-making of carving with subtle free-inking to explore hidden landscapes, people and birds, connections and isolation through abstract and semi-abstract form. I am drawn to the tension formed between these graphic blocks and the more painterly sweeps of colour.

I also have a range of contemporary folk linocuts and eco-journals with hand-printed covers of recycled card and recycled blank notepaper. I could have these printed up at the push of a computer button, but it really wouldn't be or feel the same, so I take the time to carve the blocks, ink them up and print each cover by hand. These are then professionally bound by a family run bindery in Lancashire.

Artists who inspire me include Joan Eardley, Robert Tavener, Barbara Hepworth, Keith Vaughan...and so many more besides.
