This is a unique original abstract work of art collaged from my own monoprint papers. A mixture of random and structured processes have created a coherent design which fills the page with shape and colour and can take the viewer’s own interpretation. I created the collage papers using a monoprint process with several layers of blue and green acrylic paints, blended to give a variety of shades. The textured papers were cut into random shapes and pasted onto a white cartridge paper, then outlined in black fineliner. This sheet was cut into squares which were arranged in a pleasing grid design on acid free black card. The picture is presented in a black A3 mount with the white inner to the mountboard giving an outline to the collage. It has a backing board and is protected in a clear cellophane bag. Based on a random grid of lines giving an underlying structure to the design which is apparent at a first glance, the facets are selected with edges aligning and overlapping. Each shape is shaded to give the illusion of depth, layering and direction, which on closer inspection is disconcertingly inconsistent. The colours were chosen from exactly the same colour palette which I had just used for a realistic animal portrait, and by using them in this abstract design the effect is totally different!
