Everything I produce is handcrafted from 100% recycled silver, copper wire, natural stones and pearls, with a few Swarovski crystals thrown in here and there for a bit of sparkle.
I make every metal element myself and do not buy in machine made chains or findings. Every jump ring, chain or clasp is made by me so I can truthfully say my jewellery is genuinely 100% handmade.
I started making because I wanted to wear interesting jewellery that no-one else had. I began with classic silversmithing, but everything changed for me when I discovered wire art. The fact that you could pick up a roll of wire and some pliers and create pieces so beautiful in such an eco-friendly way really appealed to me. When people started asking me where I got my jewellery, I decided to turn my hobby into a business and so Gwiver was born. I do not solder anything anymore, so there is no burning gas or harsh chemicals to contend with. I conduct my practice in as sustainable a way as I can from my beautiful studio in my garden, or sometimes at the kitchen table when I feel like being nearer the cat and the kettle.
Gwiver is the Cornish word for wire. I am a Scot who moved to Cornwall many years ago and my Celtic background and love of nature influences my jewellery designs. People have been making beautiful wearable art from metal for millennia and the techniques used in wire work haven’t changed in thousands of years. Working wire the way I do connects me to the past and the Celtic and tribal is reflected in my designs. It is not just my ancient ancestors I connect with when I make a piece of jewellery. My Mum used to say “I wish you health to wear it” when my sisters or myself came home with a new dress or necklace. When I am creating a new piece of jewellery, I am wishing health & happiness to whoever will eventually wear anything I make.

Beautiful, delicately pretty earrings, you can tell every part of them is carefully hand made. They came in a very useful little tin with a polishing cloth to keep them safe and shiny. Thank you to Ellen of Gwiver, from a very happy customer.
