About this item
A beautiful collage of beachcombed fragments, soft forms, shapes and warm colours of the seashore inspired this one-of-a-kind abstract pendant which I designed and made at my Tamar Valley workshop. The caramel colour beach-plastic pebble was picked up from where it had washed up, on the tide line of a Devon beach, buffed and shaped over many years, by the action of the sea against the shore, then cleaned and sealed in micro-crystalline wax. I picked it up along with other plastics (which went into the recycling bin) removing them from the process of further creating harmful micro-plastics, it's density and colour suggest it was once a HDPE mooring buoy. I have highlighted the surface with tiny handmade brass elements and engraved marks inspired by rocks seen on a Devon shore . The pendant hangs on a necklace of beautiful Japanese Miyuki seed beads of colours which graduate from cream to caramel to sea-green and features a fragment of ceramic tobacco pipe stem and a beautiful sea-green nugget of sea glass, both found within a Cornish harbour which I also sketched in watercolour. The beads are strung on a strong nylon-coated steel wire and a handmade brass clasp attaches directly to the pendant, total length of necklace is 60cm. Your jewellery is presented in a little drawstring bag, wrapped in tissue and delivered in a box with care instructions and my own imagery, sent via Royal Mail tracked 48hr service (UK). Packaging: Paper and card packaging is made from sustainable source recycled pulp fibres. Little drawstring bags are sustainable source recycled Fair Trade Cotton. Mailing bags are made from cornstarch, not plastic! All packaging is home-compostable and recyclable. I have a zero-waste approach to chemicals and processes in my workshop, which are always re-balanced, topped up and re-used.

You can cancel the order and get a refund from the maker within 14 days of receipt, provided the item has not been used. Faulty items can be returned within six months of payment being made.

Caring for your jewellery: To keep your silver, copper and brass jewellery from oxidising (going very dark) don’t allow your jewellery to come into contact with cleaning products, chlorinated water, perfumes or lotions. Give the metal jewellery a regular buff with a jewellery polishing cloth to maintain shine or use an old toothbrush and some silver polishing cream then buff (protect your sea-glass from the cream by covering it with masking tape). To revive the vibrancy and translucence of your sea-glass, simply apply a miniscule smidge of baby oil onto the glass with a lint-free cloth (this will not tarnish your metal) then wipe away any excess. Your dyed aluminium jewellery will not need any additional care, but to maintain the vibrancy of the colour, simply store it out of direct sunlight. If your item has a silk or waxed cotton cord, it will come already coated with a protective coat of non-toxic micro-crystalline wax to keep it clean.
