About this item
On a scorching day in June I paddled south through the sheltered waters of the Sound of Shuna into the open expanse of Loch Linnhe. Today the water was tranquil; turquoise and crystal clear. So much so that I could see the shadow of my paddle on the bottom, glancing off the white sands, rocks and sugar kelp. From a distance I watched young seals sunbathing on the shore and occasionally an adult would surface near me, just checking that I was heading in the right direction. Paddling into the small inlet that is Loch Laich I was greeted by the striking outline of Castle Stalker, a four-storey keep thought to have been built around 1440. Famously the location was used as a stand-in for Castle Leoch in Season 1 of Outlander. The water around the castle itself was lagoon-like, inviting me to explore every side of the tiny islet. Gently bobbing around, I contemplated the experience of being on the water and the different perspective of the world that it gives you, before continuing on with my journey. My Jars of the Highlands Collection uses water scooped up at each of the locations. Since moving to the Highlands one of the biggest changes has been my emotional connection to the water around me; whether kayaking, wild swimming or just marvelling at its beauty. I wanted to capture lf my experiences in watercolour, and painting with this collected water has allowed me to capture the essence of the places I have been. This A4 giclée print is produced from an original watercolour illustration 21cm wide by 29.7cm high. Packaged in recyclable and compostable materials so that your print reaches you in perfect condition. Fits a standard frame. Painted and printed in the Scottish Highlands. Sold unframed so that you can choose a style to suit your home, this A4 print would look great framed perched on a shelf. Or team it up with some of my other print designs to create a Highlands-inspired gallery wall.
