Full description
The Summer Isles is a magical archipelago of about 20 islands and skerries in the mouth of Loch Broom and home to Cathedral Cave, a spectacular sea cave on the south-western tip of Tanera Beag.
Sea kayaking is an activity always at the mercy of the waves and wind and I checked the forecast before setting out for the day. Onshore winds with a small swell should provide excellent conditions to be able to explore the cave. I paddled from Achiltibuie towards Eilean Fada Mor, taking in views of harbour porpoises along the way.
After stopping for a snack, I headed south- west in search of Cathedral Cave. As I rounded the south-eastern edge of Tanera Beag the swell hit; huge waves that risked broadsiding my kayak. As is often the case a hasty retreat into sheltered waters followed and I found myself in the majestic Tanera Beag arch, carved from billion-year-old Torridonian sandstone
One day I'll return in calmer Atlantic waters - the cave isn't going anywhere after all.
My Jars of the Highlands Collection uses water scooped up at each of the locations. Since moving to the Highlands one of the biggest changes has been my emotional connection to the water around me; whether kayaking, wild swimming or just marvelling at its beauty. I wanted to capture lf my experiences in watercolour, and painting with this collected water has allowed me to capture the essence of the places I have been.
This A4 giclée print is produced from an original watercolour illustration.
29.7cm wide by 21cm high.
Packaged in recyclable and compostable materials so that your print reaches you in perfect condition.
Fits a standard frame.
Painted and printed in the Scottish Highlands.
Sold unframed so that you can choose a style to suit your home, this A4 print would look great framed perched on a shelf. Or team it up with some of my other print designs to create a Highlands-inspired gallery wall.
