Full description
You would think that living near Loch Ness it would be easy to get to the water, but living on the north-west bank, options are few and far between. Within walking distance of my home, the only way is through winding wetlands known locally as The Cover. Even then the rivers can only be crossed safely during periods of dry weather.
In fact, my first ever view of the Loch Ness, and one of the easiest swimming spots is Dores Beach at the north end. On a clear day the view from Dores seems to go on forever, but it is only when you realise that you can see less than half of Loch Ness that you appreciate how vast it truly is. From Dores you can see the iconic 'lumpy hill', Meall Fuar-mhonaidh rising above my home of Drumnadrochit and it makes me realise how lucky I am to live in such a wonderful part of the world.
My Jars of the Highlands Collection uses water scooped up at each of the locations. Since moving to the Highlands one of the biggest changes has been my emotional connection to the water around me; whether kayaking, wild swimming or just marvelling at its beauty. I wanted to capture my experiences in watercolour, and painting with this collected water has allowed me to capture the essence of the places I have been.
This A5 giclée print is produced from an original watercolour illustration
