Full description
From Loch Ness the drive to the Isle of Skye winds through spectacular scenery to Loch Duich, but it is not until you are almost on top of it that you can see the world-famous outline of Eilean Donan Castle. Perched on a tidal island where three sea lochs meet, Eilean Donan has starred in major film franchises including Highlander and James Bond
On an overcast day in July my plan was to kayak from a jetty overlooking the castle, paddling down to the head of the loch, exploring the coastline along the way. Gently nudging the bow out from the protection of the island, the full force of the wind and waves were revealed, and plans were quickly changed. Retreating back behind the island, I headed north into a protected stretch of water. Loch Duich would have to wait for another day.
My Jars of the Highlands Collection uses water scooped up at each of the locations. Since moving to the Highlands one of the biggest changes has been my emotional connection to the water around me; whether kayaking, wild swimming or just marvelling at its beauty. I wanted to capture my experiences in watercolour, and painting with this collected water has allowed me to capture the essence of the places I have been.
This A4 giclée print is produced from an original watercolour illustration
