Title: Spirit of the Moorland (Hen Harrier)
Format: Original Hand-Finished Studio Piece
Dimensions: 20x20cm artwork displayed on a premium 21.5 cm gallery-mount backing board
A premium digital reproduction of an original design by Jamie Poole. Individually hand-embellished by the artist.
This studio multiple original belongs to 'The Wing' segment of our native British wildlife trilogy, taking its immediate sensory inspiration from the high, scarped fells and lonely moorland fens. It tracks the fierce, wild grace of the hen harrier as she drifts alone through the bitter air currents. The piece is structured around an intimate dialogue between physical mark-making and the regional poetry of the land, featuring a hand-lettered border of fractured syntax that frames the composition:
"The scarped hills lean against a hallowed sky, Where piping winds through frozen sedges ply; The spirit of the moorland drifts alone... With stiff needle feathers and a silent wing, She leaves a tawny trace upon the fell..."
By embedding the written word directly into the bird's habitat, the design moves beyond a simple animal portrait into a deep, microscopic sensing of the land, celebrating environmental optimism and active wildlife stewardship.
The Hand-Finished ProcessEvery single studio multiple is treated as a unique variable edition. The soft, atmospheric background layers-including the marbled clouds, textured sky, and typographic details-are individually composed using custom texture brushes within Adobe Fresco. This deep spatial strata is outputted as an archival pigment print base onto premium, heavy Tintoretto Gesso fine art paper, selected for its beautiful, felt-marked surface texture. The robust, architectural backbone of the hen harrier and the frozen sedges below are carved entirely by hand using professional Japanese V-tools in the artist's garden studio.
