I love working with aluminium and I love turning on my lathe so sooner or later I was going to get around to making a lamp all in my favourite metal.

If you're a fan of bare aluminium this might be of interest... I've made it all in the material, the base is made from three ally billets; turned over several sessions on my lathe. The shade is a ally tube I've drilled in a totally random pattern (a enjoyable but time consuming job). Even the bulb holder was bespoke made on my lathe. Any fixings used are stainless steel. There is a very subtle dark blue ring around each hole and that's why I've gone for a braided blue cable.
The bulb (E27 large screw) is a colour changing one with remote. These are great fun and a good way to get some mood lighting in any room (the slow fade option is fab). You can also use it just on white. I've fitted a inline on/off switch encase you want to change to a conventional bulb at some point.
Anti slip pads are used on the base. All electrical components are new and the correct rated fuse is fitted.
It stands 38cm high. I really think it could work in almost any room. Like the majority of the pieces I make - there is just the one in existence. Built to last forever.
