I bought the fabric for this shade from a small producer near Abuja, Nigeria. There they grow the indigo , create the design with hand applied wax resist , and dye the cotton fabric.
The PVC backing is flame resistant and anti-yellowing.
The shade is suitable for a lamp or pendant. The dimensions are diameter of 20cms with a height of 18cms.
I have made two shades of the same size, although they are from the same piece of fabric the patterns vary.

I lived in Abuja for several months and while I was there I was able to visit a small enterprise growing indigo, and using it to produce hand painted (with the quills of feathers) batik designs.
I bought back the piece used for the shade. So when I decided it was time I did something with my fabric collection I made this shade. I have more fabric and could make other sized shades , or another to make a pair with this one.
