A contemporary abstract sculptural ceramic standing form, this piece is called ‘Shenta’ and is from my Kindred Collection. It’s a quiet contemplative piece and will add an individual touch of style to your living space but can also be used as a focus of attention during yoga and mindfulness meditation. I created the piece from black stoneware clay, and added panels and stripes in mingled and speckled lemon yellow and ochre, with the colours permanently fired into the clay. There are different but related motifs back and front of the form as you’ll see from the images, thus you can choose which way Shenta can face, or change to suit your mood! Each piece in the Kindred Collection is different because each is entirely handmade – I don’t use moulds or transfers. Each has a personality of its own, and a name, this one is Shenta. 20 cms high.

The Kindred Collection is the result of many happy hours examining ancient Minoan and Cycladic archaeological finds in the museums and galleries of Crete and Rhodes. The forms have echoes of votive objects from long ago, while the decorative motifs and patterns reflect my interest in textile design from the early 20th century. It’s a classic/modern fusion!
