A small Tote Bag made from rare Vintage Fabric and a modern velvet.

The outer fabric of the bag is a rare vintage cotton by the design house Warner called 'Souvenir d'Afrique' which features framed depictions of elephants against an exotic backdrop of fruits and flowers, set on a dramatic black background.

The inside of the Tote is lined with a modern cotton velvet by Harlequin called 'Segments', featuring abstract shapes in gorgeous shades of peacock and turquoise blue. There is a handy pocket on the one side (made from the inner fabric).

The dimensions are: 30 cm wide (at the widest point) and 27 cm at the narrowest top point, 26 cm tall with handles which are 16 cm tall.

Warners have been purveyors of beautiful fabrics including silks, linen and damask to the Royal Family since 1932 but have a history in the textile business going back to the late 17th Century! They became a leading design house in the 1870s, producing innovative fabrics and designs for a wider audience through to the 1950s and beyond.

This fabric from 1988, designed by Lewis Jones, is a rare find (they even have a piece of it in the V&A). I only had a very small piece in the black colourway which I have used to make this charming small tote or unique evening bag. However, I was lucky enough to find a much longer piece in blue (which is a glazed chintz) which I have a few other ideas for - so watch this space!
