The beads on this choker style necklace have been hand rolled using a mixture of Earthen ware and Stoneware clay's.
After an initial firing the pottery beads are carefully painted with various layers and bands of metallic oxides and under glazes, creating a mixture of glossy and satin finishes.
After a second firing, I choose beads in complementing colours and textures to knot together this simple but effective necklace, using black cotton chord, fastening with a lobster style clasp at the back.
This necklace is approx 24 cm in length when fastened, beads approx 2 cm in width and comes in it's own gift box made from recycled fibres.

Nature is a theme that currently runs through all my work, similarly when creating this beaded jewelry range, inspiration comes from the earthy beaded style of jewelry made by early man, often found in archaeological digs.
Each bead is textured and painted individually, sometimes texturing and carving into the clay, creating textures like stone, earth and branch like lines, then glazes with colours reflecting the colours contained in the landscape knotted together to create a piece of wearable, tactile art.
