A tiny image of a Barn Owl in flight at night above some tree silhouettes.

In my little picture, the Barn Owl has been stitched by hand onto a felt fibre background using individual strands of embroidery thread. The night sky was formed with some fibres of felt in different colours carefully positioned on the cotton background. It’s not “felted” as such, since the fibres are held in place by the embroidery of the owl, trees and stars. The moonlight catching the tips of the branches is shown in silver thread.

The textile work is not quite 3x3cms and the overall picture is just under 11x11cms. I photographed it in natural light without the glass for clarity. The frame is oak and with the glass in place and a hook on the reverse, it’s ready to display.

A lovely item for someone who likes Owls, with a slightly magical atmosphere...

I was commissioned to do a little picture featuring a Barn Owl in flight and imagined the scene as nighttime with tree silhouettes and a starry sky.

I was really pleasantly pleased with the result and did a little mini series of pictures, as shown in the final photo. They have a slightly magical atmosphere about them.
