Unique artist's design chess set; handmade to order, hand finished, triple weighted, polished with beeswax and finished with black felt bases.

The pieces are presented in a luxury, black rigid board box, copper foil block design on the lid and lined throughout with red suedel fabric. The king is 115mm (4.5inches) tall, ideal for 2.25 inch square boards (not included) Minimum board size recommended would be 2 inch square boards.

Included in the box is a printed parchment which describes in detail each piece individually and the artist's inspiration for the motives and themes behind the designs.

The perfect gift for the chess player in your life, or simply as a stunning display set.

The pieces were hand sculpted in modelling clay, before being cast in marble resin and finished with an antique ivory and aged mahogany affect. They were heavily inspired by symbolism and archetypes and based upon historic, Medieval designs.

My aim was to celebrate the aesthetic and the meaning that each piece brought to the board. These pieces, as characters, are alive in my mind and fulfilling their purpose with a quiet resolve. They had to be not too detailed, nor too distracting, easily identifiable and distinct from each other, free from religious symbolism in a return to the game's secular roots (they are not bishops but paladins) and finally, the pieces had to be a pleasure to hold, with a satisfying weight and feel (the heaviest piece is the Paladin at 100g and weighted to the base).
