Marking both Western and classical Chinese time cycles, this calendar will help you track the changing energetic qualities of the year, according to the principles of ancient Chinese astrology.

Stunning woodblock prints illustrate the relevant zodiac animal of each month, along with detailed explanations that will help keep you in sync with the intricate elemental rhythms of the days, months and seasons.

The prints are for the most part Japanese water-based prints, with some made with lino cuts in a technique more familiar to the West. The artist Ralph Kiggell is a renowned woodblock printer, whose work is collected at The British Library and the Ashmolean Museum.

Each month is accompanied by a written commentary explaining the elemental movements at work, and giving a short character description for each zodiac animal. The calendar also includes an illustrated introduction to Chinese metaphysics, such as Yin Yang and Five Element Theory

For many, the past two years have allowed us to slow down and notice the subtle energetic changes that are taking place around us. We have become more aware of our immediate environment and have had the opportunity to align our daily rhythms to those of the natural world. Traditional Chinese methods of measuring time start from here - that is, the quality of a moment is described by observing a range of actual phenomena such as solar, planetary, lunar and seasonal cycles. With these vital new connections and opportunities in our lives, it feels timely to create a calendar that unites the modern Western approach to counting time with the traditional Chinese methods of describing it. I have been studying Chinese Astrology and Feng Shui for 7 years, and run LifeHouse Feng Shui, consulting locally globally online. My cousin Ralph has been producing an animal image of the Chinese Zodiac every year, based on folk art and inspired the nature surrounding him in Thailand where he lives.
