I got a lot of inspiration from my black cat who I adored. Also, because I suffered from insomnia from a very young age, I would often go for walks at night and observe very similar landscape. In fact, I depicted my favorite spot in this painting.

There's a couple of cats sitting by each other's side next to bushes of reed and watching starry sky at night. I wanted to depict very peaceful, friendly and harmonious relationships that I was lacking as a child. There's an idillic scene of two best friends or lovers at the end of the long day meeting each other and spending some warm quiet and relaxing time together. The male also offered the female the fish he caught during the day.
