Item details
Working with spalted wood is a challenge because the wood can be very soft and the grain patterns disturbed. Woodturners call it "punky". It requires sharp tools and careful finishing. This willow tree fell over in strong wind in a park very close to my home. I turned it to an initial shape, and then very carefully dried it out in a microwave to relax the fibres and reduce the chances of it splitting. I then turned it into the final shape.
