Aventurine glass, also known as goldstone, is a manmade stone with a beautiful sparkle, formed by dissolving a metal compound (in this case cobalt) into molten glass and allowing the mixture to cool very slowly so that highly reflective metallic crystals form within the glass.
A 6mm and 4mm blue aventurine glass and 5mm shell bead are accented with 3mm copper beads.
The aventurine glass is a lovely midnight blue, sparkling with silvery-blue flecks, and the shell shimmers with mother-of-pearl.
The ear-wires are of gold vermeil.
Gold vermeil is sterling silver that has been plated with gold, and are stamped "925".
These earrings measure approximately 1 inch (2.5cm) excluding the wires.
Presented in a small organza bag.

A Venetian glassmaker, however, would argue that the technique was developed in Murano in the 17th century.
Other tales say it was discovered by accident by an alchemist trying to turn copper into gold, or by an apprentice monk knocking copper shavings into a vat of molten glass...
