I have been knitting for longer than I care to remember. My mother taught me when I was 5. I love it. It's therapeutic, creative, meditative, rewarding, thoroughly enjoyable, portable.... I knit at every possible opportunity.
After years of making myself far too many jumpers I made a doll for my granddaughter, then more for private and public sales, and then bears, and off I went! More and more until it became a bit of an obsession. I just love the wool I knit with, the colours and textures, and even the gorgeous soft carded lambswool I fill them with. The most rewarding bit is when I put their little faces on, they just appear with their own smiling individuality.
Please note that my items have no loose parts and have passed the CE and UKCA tests
This little bear has been handknitted by me on needles, not a machine. He has taken me a good two days to make. He is knitted in pure Shetland wool which gives him a proper authentic feel. He's a proper traditional vintage-style little bear! He is filled with lovely soft carded lambswool. His legs and arms articulate so he can be put into different positions. He's the perfect size for little hands (and big hands too!)
Items made from natural fibres are more enduring and nicer to hold than acrylic toys. They have a proper old-fashioned feel.
He can be washed in a cool wool wash and squeezed back into shape, or better still just washed gently by hand.
This bear is inspired from a pattern by Sandra Polley
I made my first knitted toy for my granddaughter. I made her a doll. Then I began to make other dolls which I started to sell as they were so admired. Then I began to make bears! Now whenever a member of my family reaches a significant birthday they receive a special bear. They are all much loved and this inspires me to make more. Each little face is different, and the character just appears in front of me!
