A beautiful appliqué free motion and hand embroidered image of willow herb and corn marigolds growing at the edge of a cornfield. Willow herb became known as 'Fireweed' because of it's propensity to grow on bomb sites. It was beautiful this summer but now the whisky white seed heads are blowing across the country side ready to grow again next year. A stitched memory of warm Summer colours.
The piece is unglazed, framed in a broad white frame and ready to hang. The frame measures 37 x 25.5cm and the appliqué is 25 x 13.5cm. This is an original textile piece.

I love wildflowers, so many colours and shapes - and so important for insects and wildlife. I also love the stories and folklore that accompany them. So I sketch and record them where I find them and then create appliquéd and embroidered images of them back in my workroom in Newcastle. The pink of willow herb flares out against green grasses in high Summer and I wanted to capture these vibrant colours. The broad white frame continues the fresh, summery feel of this piece.
