Some years ago I made a needle felted sheep in a jam jar. A play on words , 'Ship in a bottle', it was time to revisit the idea using pastels.
I've been experimenting with different pastels and surfaces and in this particular piece I have reverted to my favourite surface, pastelmat. The image was created using 3 different types of soft pastel. The most recent acquisition is a small set of Unison pastels, made in Northumberland. They are delicious to use and the pigments are strong.

The sheep portrayed, is a Bluefaced Leicester, photographed 3 years ago about a mile from home. As a fan of sheep and wool, the idea of bottling the smells of the countryside is very appealing.

I haven't included mounts or frames as I always struggle with the choices, and these choices are quite different according to personal taste.

'Sheep in a bottle' will be wrapped and packaged with care and attention. The pastel has taken well to the surface, but glassene paper will protect it in transit.
