This is a Cupid's Dart pendant with a genuine Aquamarine coloured Venetian Murano Glass Heart pierced with a Sterling Silver arrow, hand crafted by me at my East Sussex workshop. The heart is 20 mm in length and is made by encasing a core of fine silver with aqua coloured glass, to give the impression of shot silk in the light. The sterling silver arrow was made entirely by hand forging, heating and hammering the metal into shape then carving details such as the fletchings at the top of the shaft. I have marked the arrow .925 for sterling silver. Each Cupid's Dart pendant is totally unique and one of a kind. At 50 mm 2" long and mounted on a 450 mm chain, this pendant would make a lovely gift which is sure to be appreciated and treasured for years to come.
It will be sent packaged in a decorated black card gift box, that can be recycled if you wish.
This is one of my bestselling Cupid's Arrow Pendants. The legend says that the Roman God Cupid, the son of Venus the goddess of love, would carelessly throw magical darts at mortals, and whoever was pierced through the heart would fall hopelessly in love with the next person they saw. A heart pierced with an arrow became the universal symbol of true love.
About Murano Glass Beads
Glass beads have been made on the island of Murano in the Venetian Lagoon since the 13th Century when glassmaking was moved there to prevent fires breaking out in the city. Many of the techniques used by the artists who make the glass are closely guarded secrets, and it helped to be located on an island where few people were allowed to visit. Nowadays the glass making process is still done by hand and Murano glass is recognised as the finest of its kind in the world. No two Murano beads are alike and many are lined in fine silver or 24 Karat gold to enhance their beauty.
